"After they prayed, the place where they were gathered was shaken. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit! They began speaking God’s word with confidence. The community of believers was one in heart and mind. None of them would say, "This is mine!" about any of their possessions, but held everything in common. The apostles continued to bear powerful witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and an abundance of grace was at work among them all." (Acts of the Apostles 4:31-33 CEB)
Let’s pray for boldness!
On May 31, we will celebrate giving by making our “estimates of giving” for 2015-2016. (Last year, we moved to a September - August fiscal year. This means that each spring, we will spend time intentionally praying and discussing what we are called to give for the following school year.)
I encourage you to begin praying now over what you are called to boldly give. One way to get up the courage to allow God “shake the world” (as we read about in Acts) through us is look at our giving from a percentage basis.
Here is a sample chart that looks at what increasingly bold giving looks like (the boldness comes from moving from the left to the right after you calculate your weekly income):
Of course, as I read this chart, I can’t help but think about the 100% that Jesus calls us to - and that, amazingly, we read about in Acts!
Now, THAT would require some bold praying!
