End of the Year Financial Report

The following letter was sent with giving statements in early December.

Dear Friends at University United Methodist Church,

Thank you for all of your generosity through 2015 at UUMC. Your gifts of money, time, and talents enable us to live out our vision and mission in our community.

I know now that Advent has started, you’re probably as busy as we are getting ready for all of the time spent with family and friends as we remember the birth of Emmanuel, God With Us. So I want to keep this letter short and sweet.

The first thing I wanted to tell you is that the budget for the 2015–2016 fiscal year (September 1 –August 31) has been approved by the Leadership Council. A few highlights:

- We have been working with the preschool to clarify their financial obligations, especially in regards to employee insurance costs

- We have been able to reduce budgeted expenses by 4% since last year, though this was in response to a 5% reduction in income, and we have had to make some hard choices

- We have been able to pay our apportionments (connectional giving to the United Methodist Church) in full

If you have any questions, or want to know more about the budget, there will be a Q&A with the Finance Sub-Team of the Administrative Team (myself, Kelly Mohr, and Gary Hollingsworth; and Kent and Jane McNeil, our co-treasurers) after church on December 13th in the Parlor.

As well, all of us on the Finance Sub-Team, along with Dan Barrett (AT Lay Leader) and Rev. Diane all have an open door—or open e-mail—policy. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to let us know!  And, if you’d like to get involved to help us prayerfully lead the church, talk to Rev. Diane about your interest.

Another thing I wanted to point out is the statement for your January–November giving included with this letter. This can help you plan your end-of-year giving. If there are any questions or you notice any errors, Abbi will be able to help you. A 2015 giving statement will be coming in January.

The last thing I wanted to let you know about is our Christmas offerings this year. As you know, there is a huge humanitarian crisis in the world with the number of refugees. Our Christmas offerings this year will be going to support refugee ministries; more details will be coming soon.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a Prayerful Advent and a Merry Christmas!
